KIDS WORKSHOPS

Monday thru Thursday $123/week

(A) JEWELRY & METALSMITHING - Alice Carroll

This beginning intensive will cover the use of basic hand tools and the primary techniques in making jewelry and metal objects. Students will learn about hot and cold connections, piercing, surface decoration, finishing, and a variety of other ways to manipulate metal.

Studio Fee $25.

(B) BAKING BREAD, BUNS & BISCOTTI FOR KIDS (of all ages) - Berri Kramer

Explore the magic of mixing healthy ingredients to make yeast breads, hot cross buns, granola and cakes. Learn something new everyday to put in your "tool" box for the rest of your life! Your family will love the treats too!

Studio fee $25

(C) PAPER MAKING - Gayle Fitzpatrick

Discover methods of papermaking from natural fibers and colors. With their handmade paper students will create a sampler of experiments in folding, fluting, piecing, impressing and weaving. Paper is used to compose sculptures, frames, folders and simple books.

(E) PRINTMAKING - Gayle Fitzpatrick

An introduction to selected printmaking techniques including relief intaglio, embossing, collagraphs and monoprinting. Expermentation and combinations of techniques are encouraged. Prepare paper, plates and editions.

Studio Fee $25.

(F) POLYMER CLAY - Berri Kramer

Amazing patterns and designs abound with the beautiful colors and techniques of polymer clay. Make incredible beads, pins, earrings and bracelets. Cover salt shakers, candle sticks or screwdriver handles. Once you start, you won't want to stop!

(G) Ceramics for Kids - July 6 - 15 (7 classes)

This handbuilding class will focus on form, texture and tactile experience. Students will learn how to construct and build with the … properties of clay. Pattern and glazing will be an intergral part of the finished pieces.

Studio fee: $45. July, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13 & 15.

(H) Ceramics: Handbuilding ~ Tiles & Trivets - July 19 - 29

Learn to wedge, roll and form shapes out of stoneware clay. Imbed designs, hand paint and glaze to create, magnificent, one of a kind tiles and trivets!

Studio fee: $45 July 19, 20, 21, 22, 26, 27, 29

(L) Wheelthrowing and Raku - August 2-12

An introduction to the basic techniques of wheel throwing. Concentrate on basic forms such as cylinders and bowls, altering forms and tooling. Raku, a japanese firing technique translates as "beauty by chance". Clay is fired to 1900 degrees and removed from an outdoor kiln at full temperatures. The ceramic piece is buried in a can of sawdust to reduce the chamber of oxygen, creating copper lustres, turquoise blues, crackling and iridescent glaze effects. This intensive workshop will culminate with a dramatic Raku firing.

Studio fee: $45 August 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 12.

(2) PLEIN AIR OIL OR ACRYLIC - Jayne Adams

"En plein air" means in the open air, and is used to describe the art of painting outdoors. Emphasis is on what you "see", not what you imagine. Learn how to choose a subject, block it out and finish a painting in a 3 hour length of time. Bring oil or acrylic to work with.

No Studio Fee.

(3) PLEIN AIR OIL OR ACRYLIC - Jayne Adams

Beginning and advanced students welcome. See description for #2.

(5) Intro to Oil - Kelly Jo Shows

An introduction to oil painting beginning with simple color exercises, advancing to composition and spatial dynamics. Light, shadow, rhythm and proportion will be explored through the versatile medium of oil paint.

Studio fee: $25, includes canvas, brush & paint.

(6) Oil - Twisted Still Life - Kelly Jo Shows

Look at still life from a new perspective. Everyday objects have a life of their own. Learn to "Dance" the composition in unique arrangements. Explore painting techniques that energize forms while finding your painting voice in oil.

Studio fee: $25, includes canvas, brush & paint.

(7) Book Arts - Berri Kramer

Make unique books using the pamphlet stitch, codex, stab binding and a variety of fold techniques. Discover tools and materials, lanquage and methods, and use them to create your own journals, albums and books.

Material fee: $20 includes handmade paper, cover materials and bone folder.

(8) Watercolor: Floral I - Dewitt Hardy

This watercolor workshop will explore the subject of flowers by observing the abstract shapes suggested by natural forms. Through simplification and careful observation students will capture the transient beauty of flowers.

Studio fee: $25, includes paper & flowers.

(10) Botanical Drawing - Susan Wilder

Beginning & advanced individuals. Bring the sensuous beauty of flowers to life while observing the details that capture the essence of Summer. Learn to illustrate one of nature's most beautiful gifts. Work in water media, ink or pencil to create a garden on paper. Think 19th century!!

Studio fee: $20

(11) Drawing I - Susan Wilder

Drawing is the foundation course that enhances every artistic form. Instruction covers basic volume, light and shadow, idea and design, composition and 3D illusion. Emphasis is on gaining control of materials and techniques through subject studies. Students will acquire an understanding of line, shadow and tonal graduations.

Studio fee: $20

(12) Drawing II - Susan Wilder

Building on the lessons of Drawing I, this class will continue exploring the graphic foundations with an emphasis on tone with dry media; pencil, charcoal, chalk. Beginning and advanced students.

Materials fee: $20.

(13) Chinese Calligraphy - Susan Wilder

The brush is the traditional writing implement in Chines calligraphy. Learn to use the brushes, bamboo, Sumi ink and practice on different papers, the art of creating Chinese word images. Class will culminate in large, one stroke Enso (circle) painting.

Material fee: $20 includes brush, ink and paper.

(16) Pet Portraits - Kelly Jo Shows

What could be a better subject than your beloved four legged or two winged pet? Learn from a pet portrait master. Capture likeness, expression and personality. Bring several photos of your pet(s) to first class. Taught in acrylic, but feel free to work in other water mediums.

Studio fee: $30, includes paint, paper & brush.

(18) Pastel - On Site - Wade Zahares

Pastel is a spontaneous medium offering the immediacy of drawing combined with the richness of color painting. Soft pastel (sticks of pure pigment) afford an ease of color blending. Different papers and pastel grades will be explored, as well as basic composition and color theory. Study with a master of pastel. All work will be done on-site at various scenic locations.

Studio fee: $30, includes pastel & paper
